WHO WE ARE
HALO's mission is to reduce the population of owner-surrendered animals in shelters. We do this by offering other options such as behavior modification, training tools, pet food, and assistance with medical treatments to those individuals facing financial challenges. HALO offers services that are discounted significantly for the public. We ensure that behavior modification and training services are affordable to those needing help. We inspire pet owners to keep the promise they made to their pet to care for them forever and we will ensure that cost will never be an issue. HALO hopes to be an inspiration to the community by teaching humane treatment to animals and their owners.
We are a 501(c)(3) organization.
Regina Willen, is a Neuroscience and Physiology Scientist. She is a board certified applied animal behaviorist (ACAAB) with the Animal Behavior Society (ABS) and is an animal behavior consultant with the International Association Of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). She has extensively studied the behavior of shelter dogs in and out of the shelter. She specializes in creating behavior programs that are practical for shelter staff, volunteers, and the busy family. She has successfully implemented a behavior modification and an enrichment program in a county shelter in Dayton, Ohio, which has saved hundreds of lives. Regina uses scientific research, psychology, and physiology to understand your best friend's behavior. She will create an easy to understand and practical behavior plan and will support you every step of the way until you're comfortable implementing the plan and happy with the results.
SAVIING ANIMALS~SUPPORTING FAMILIES~SERVING COMMUNITY
HALO offers a much needed service to the community addressing the homeless and abandoned animals. We house dogs removed from the shelter, those in rescues, and those belonging to private individuals. We conduct behavior modification, extensive training, and basic boarding to those animals at risk of being euthanized. Currently our facility houses 7 dogs, however we are working to open several cottages. The cottages will house dogs who suffer from dog reactivity, stress, and other special needs. HALO makes a great impact on the community offering services such as low/no cost training, low cost daycare, low cost/no cost vaccine clinics. HALO is nonprofit and all money earned goes back to the community!
What makes Regina stand out from other Behaviorists? Regina is one of only two Board Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (ACAAB) in the surrounding area. She is also a Behavior Consultant with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). Regina has worked extensively with dogs that have displayed behaviors such as:
Lack of socialization
Compulsive behaviors (tail chasing, spinning, object obsession, fly biting)
Resource guarding (toys, bed, house, yard)
Aggression (e.g. barrier, play, dominance, predatory, fear and pain).
BOARDING & DAYCARE
During your pet’s stay, he/she will be housed in an 10x10 room with French doors, containing a day bed, tv, essential oil diffuser, and a camera for the director to monitor during his/her stay. It is truly a home away from home in a safe, stress-free environment.
Your dog will be included in a small play group and allow your dog ample time to play in our 5-acre fenced yard, or a privacy fenced in yard. Your dog will have time to rest with staff and receive cuddles and toys in our living room. They will receive special attention and not want for anything while you are away!
HALO provides behavior modification programs for those shelter dogs not yet ready for adoption. HALO removes those dogs from the stressful shelter environment and provides behavior modification in a home environment. Please check out our adoptable dogs that have graduated from our behavior modification program and in need of forever homes. Please note that our adoptable dogs are housed with private fosters. If you would like to meet a dog, we have to set up an appointment. There are no dogs available for adoption at our facility.
HALO offers several programs designed to assist pet owners, shelters, rescues, and dogs in our community. Penny's Promise, Platinum Paws, Rehome My Dog, Safe Pets, and Shelter, Rescue, and Behavior Partnership are HALO programs that support our mission.
“Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever."
